Reid Flair, 25-Year-Old Son Of Ric Flair, Passes Away

Reid Flair, the 25-year-old son of legendary wrestler Ric Flair, has been found dead, PWInsider.com reports Friday.

Details concerning his passing have not been disclosed.

With his background, Flair was hailed as future wrestling star dating back to high school as he was an accomplished amateur wrestler who achieved numerous awards. His career, however, was sidetracked in 2009 due to a slew of personal issues, including an arrest that found him in possession of black tar heroin.

Following a hiatus from the squared circle, Reid made his in-ring debut for All Japan Wrestling in January, replacing his sick father in a tag team match due to the WWE Hall of Famer suffering a blood clot in his leg. Last month, Reid competed in All Japan's Excite Series tour, wrestling undercard tag team matches. On March 15, Flair wrestled his first singles match in All Japan, causing Yasufumi Nakanoue to submit with the Figure Four Leglock. He was scheduled to make independent appearances in Maryland this weekend with his father.

WWE announced Thursday that Bob Backlund will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on Saturday, April 6, 2013 by Maria Menounos, who has worked with the legendary wrestler in the past. The following press release was issued.

World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. : Maria Menounos to Induct Bob Backlund into WWE® Hall of Fame

WWE (NYSE:WWE) announced today that Extra Host Maria Menounos will induct Bob Backlund into the WWE Hall of Fame. The ceremony will be held at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, April 6, 2013 as part of WrestleMania® Week.

Menounos has made multiple appearances on WWE programming dating back to 2009 when she made her in-ring debut and co-hosted Monday Night Raw with Nancy O'Dell. In 2011, Menounos appeared at WWE Tribute to the Troops where she teamed with Eve Torres, Kelly Kelly and Alicia Fox to defeat the team of The Bella Twins and WWE Divas Natalya and Beth Phoenix. Menounos continued her feud after Phoenix and Eve Torres interrupted an interview segment with Kelly Kelly on Extra. This led to a tag team match at WrestleMania 28 where she teamed with Kelly Kelly to defeat Torres and Phoenix.

Menounos, a lifelong WWE fan, idolized Backlund while growing up and met him through partner Keven Undergaro, who as Head Writer of MTV's Singled Out, cast Backlund to guest star alongside Jenny McCarthy and Chris Hardwick. Menounos then worked with Backlund on the comedy feature, In the Land of Merry Misfits, and the two have been close ever since. Backlund was present at Menounos Miss Massachusetts USA competition and ran alongside her at the Nike Celebrity Road Race.

"It is an honor to induct my good friend Bob Backlund into the WWE Hall of Fame," said Maria Menounos. "Watching him carry the title for a since unmatched five years and then stage such an incredible comeback with a reinvented persona puts him in a class all his own. Add in his incredible work ethic and high moral caliber, and you have everything that defines the word champion. And astonishingly, he can still wrestle with guys a third his age! He's my hero and my friend. I can't wait for the ceremony on April 6."

"I am truly humbled to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame," said Bob Backlund. "Maria has been a friend for years and I can't think of someone I would rather have induct me at Madison Square Garden."

A one-hour Hall of Fame special will air on Tuesday, April 9 at 10:00 p.m. ET on USA Network. WrestleMania 29 airs live on pay-per-view Sunday, April 7 at 7:00 p.m. ET from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ.

WWE Smackdown Results 3/29/13

We are in Hershey, Pennsylvania and your announcers are Michael Cole, Josh Mathews and John Layfield.

We start off with the Rock and he brings it to the ring.

Rock pulls out a Hershey Bar to get a new version of the cheap pop and then he says about a month ago on Raw, he did something called Story Time with the Rock. He figured that story time should continue. He talked about buying his first car from a crack head in downtown Nashville.

Rock moved from Nashville to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He was no ordinary 15 year old. He was six foot four and weighed two-twenty and was rocking a mustache. He asks if everyone wants to see a photo of the Rock at fifteen and we see it. He says that he looked like a bouncer for Menudo.

One of the great benefits of living in Bethlehem meant that he lived about an hour from a special town that he would go to on the weekends. They would go to a certain park and ride some rides. He says that he would eat as much chocolate as he could. It was a magical feeling to come back to this town. He feels like that fifteen year old child and he has to say.

FINALLY . . . the Rock has come back to Her . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . shey.

He says that he remembered on weekend. Rock says that he wanted a Whatchamacallit and he was looking at many stores. His friends wanted to get beer, but Rock wanted his candy bar. He found the candy bar but someone took the last one.

Rock says that something historic happened that night. He looked at that person and he told him that if he does not put down that candy, he is going to kick his candy ass.

That old lady put that candy down and left the store. Kicking your candy ass was created in Hershey.

People will go to extraordinary lengths to get what they want. Whether it be a Whatchamacallit or beating John Cena at Wrestlemania. Last week on Raw, John Cena got in his face but Rock says that he kicked his candy ass.

Cena will continue to come at him, but Rock says that he will kick Cena’s candy ass. He will come at him in his jeans shorts but Rock will kick his candy ass. Cena will come at him with his Fruity Pebbles and Rock will kick his candy ass. He will do it at Wrestlemania in front of the millions . . . and

PEOPLE POWER is back and John Laurinaitis makes his way to the ring.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Rock asks John who in the blue hell he is and John wants to know if that is a trick question. Everyone knows who he is. He reminds us that he is John Laurinaitis and he tells us what his former titles in WWE were.

Rock says that John has him confused with someone who gives a crap. John interrupted Story Time with the Rock.

John says that his former adversary Teddy Long gave him permission to come out to talk to Rock. John says that everyone thinks he will talk too long and then get Rock Bottomed. That will not happen because him and Rock are a lot alike. Rock is the People’s Champion and John created People Power. John was the greatest General Manager the WWE ever saw until one man ruined it. That man is John Cena. Cena is the reason he was fired and Cena is the reason why he is back.

Rock tells John that it might be John Cena who gets Laurinaitis’ ass kicked.

John tells Rock that John Cena will do whatever he needs to do to beat Rock. Everyone knows that. He has a business proposition for the Rock. He suggests that Big Johnny be in the corner of the Rock. John says that the people might not like it but the goal is to win. John says that there is no way that John Cena will beat him at Wrestlemania. John guarantees the Rock a victory. He says that they are like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. Two great tastes that taste great together.

Rock says that he loves Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Rock suggests that they involve the people. Rock wants to know if the people would like to see this stale, old, indigestible, stick to the top of the roof of your mouth until you vomit piece of peanut butter team up with the Most Electrifying piece of chocolate the world has ever seen.

Rock tells John that the people have spoken and he says that he is a business man and he has a business proposition for John. He says that it is not a Rock Bottom. Rock tells John that they send John Cena a message . . . together . . . like a peanut butter cup.

Rock tells John that they need to have a handshake so we know that John agrees. John shakes his hand and then Rock holds on and he gives John a spinebuster followed by a People’s Elbow.

Rock tells John Cena that at Wrestlemania, his candy ass is going down . . . again.

Josh Mathews interviewed Paul Heyman earlier in the day and we go to that footage.

Paul asks Josh if he has something relevant or intelligent to tell him. Paul wants to know if he is here for a rebuttal to Triple H. Paul says that he is here to put it on the record to show the position that Triple H is in. It is a must lose situation. Paul says that he was talking about Triple H’s career not only as a wrestler but as the COO of a multi-million dollar corporation.

After Brock beats Triple H, Triple H will have to live through the wrestlers. He would not be able to wrestle because that was taken away from him. Triple H will then resent the entire locker room. How can you lead the locker room when you are jealous of them? The locker room will rebel against Triple H and they will rise up against him.

Triple H has made back to back the biggest mistakes of his career. Triple H thought that he could compete intellectually with Paul Heyman and he is no match for Paul. Paul says that Triple H tried to compete physically with his client and Triple H is no match for Brock Lesnar.

WWE Hiring Hispanic Writer, Sin Cara Not Cleared, WWE Losing Money with 2013 Hall of Fame

As of this past week, Sin Cara still wasn't cleared to wrestle. As noted, he suffered a concussion in the March 11th match against Jack Swagger.

In response to the criticism of bad booking for Alberto Del Rio, WWE is looking at hiring a Hispanic Telenovela writer who will be responsible for the creative content, scripts and developing storylines & characters to target specifically Hispanic crowds.

WWE will be losing a bunch of money on the 2013 Hall of Fame ceremony, even with a sellout, due to the cost of running at Madison Square Garden. Having the ceremony at MSG this year was more symbolism and something Triple H pushed for. WWE wanted to run the Hall at MSG this year even before the idea of inducting Bruno Sammartino came up.

Chris Jericho Reveals Original WrestleMania Plans, Talks About Bray Wyatt and More

Chris Jericho appeared on Wrestling Observer Radio and noted that he was considered for several ideas for WrestleMania 29, including a mixed tag match at one point. When Jericho left for a tour of Australia with Fozzy, the plan was for him to turn heel and feud with Ryback. He came back from the tour and was informed by Eric Pankowski that plans changed and he would be facing Fandango as a babyface.

Jericho admitted he wasn't happy with the change in plans at first but he's excited after the way things have worked out. Jericho will take some time off after WrestleMania to tour with Fozzy from April 13th through the 28th. The deal he came back under was for WrestleMania but there is an understanding that he would like to work with WWE when other projects aren't going on. At 42 years old, Jericho isn't looking at taking long periods away from wrestling. When Jericho returned this time, he negotiated his deal with Triple H, not Vince McMahon.

Jericho also spoke about last week's NXT TV tapings and said he specifically asked to work with Bray Wyatt because he likes his style and loves his new gimmick. Jericho estimated Wyatt will be a main roster star in a year and a major star in two. He also praised Adrian Neville, the former Pac, for his match against Antonio Cesaro. Jericho also feels that NXT Diva Emma would get over very well on the main roster with her dancing gimmick.

Backstage News on Jeff Jarrett's Status, How Much Does It Cost to Tape Impact?, More

The March 22nd TNA live event in Concord, North Carolina drew 800 fans. The March 23rd show in Roanoke Rapids, NC drew 1,300 fans.

Spike TV officials are looking at making the network more about scripted entertainment and may be changing their name again. TNA will most likely be safe because they fit the new direction and their ratings are better than other programs on the network.

The cost for TNA to tape Impact Wrestling on the road is between $600,000 and $700,000. If they do 26 tapings per year, they're looking at around $17 million in costs.

There's no official word on Jeff Jarrett's TNA status after he didn't work the special One Night Only tapings that were held last week. Jarrett was written out of the storylines back in 2011 when he was focusing on Ring Ka King but with that no longer around and the planned project for the SPEED channel not getting picked up, he had been looking for other projects. TNA's Bruce Prichard and Eric Bischoff decided against bringing Jarrett back after a talent and to show how strong they were on it, they chose not to bring him back for the nostalgia tapings he would have fit into.

Original Plans for WWE's 2013 HOF Headliner, Update on Inductors, Touts at WrestleMania 29

WWE will be asking fans to Tout videos from their WrestleMania 29 parties on April 7th. The plan is to air some of those Touts on the pay-per-view.

Chyna may have been telling the truth when she said she recently spoke to Vince McMahon about a possible Hall of Fame induction. DX may be inducted as a group at WrestleMania 30. The original plan was to headline this year's Hall of Fame with DX if they couldn't get a deal worked out with Bruno Sammartino.

Regarding inductors for this year's class, Maria Menounos will be inducting Bob Backlund, Terry Funk will induct Mick Foley and Arnold Schwarzenegger will induct Bruno. It's expected Lita will induct Trish Stratus and Stevie Ray will induct his brother Booker T.
